About Mr Platt

Mr Platt is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon specialising in knee and hip surgery.

Training

He commenced his medical studies in 1994 at St Mary's Hospital, London and qualified in 2001 achieving a Distinction in Surgery, awarded to a select number of the highest performing candidates across the University of London. He was a prize-winner for his overall performance in final medical exams, winning the Malcolm Morris Memorial Prize.


In addition to his medical degree, he has been awarded two further degrees; a BSc in Neuroscience from Imperial College, London and later he was awarded a scholarship to Oxford University where he studied at University College, Oxford to complete an MSc in Diagnostic Imaging.


His MSc research was published at National and International meetings.

Speciality Training

Mr Platt completed his higher Orthopaedic surgical training on the North West Thames Higher Orthopaedic training programme, working in Central London specialist centres including Charing Cross Hospital and Chelsea & Westminster Hospital as well as several busy District General Hospitals. He undertook subspecialist training on a fellowship in soft tissue knee surgery and knee arthroplasty (replacement) at Tunbridge Wells Hospital, Kent.
 
He returned to Chelsea and Westminster Hospital to take up an appointment as a Consultant hip and knee surgeon where he worked for two years before moving to Hillingdon and Mount Vernon Hospital between 2017 and 2024.
 
Mr Platt now works full-time in the private sector.

Teaching

Mr Platt is a committed teacher. He is a faculty member on the renowned Miller FRCS exam revision course and the Chelsea Basic Arthroscopy Course. He lectures on the Imperial Orthopaedic MSc course. Mr Platt was course convenor for prospective Orthopaedic trainees covering the practical skills required to secure a position on an Orthopaedic training programme.


He lectures to industry bodies, Allied Health professionals, and provides careers guidance for prospective medical school applicants and work experience placements.

Outside Work

In his free time, Mr Platt enjoys woodwork/DIY, cars/mechanics, cycling, skiing, travel and spending time with his family. He builds and maintains his own bicycles, and is an ex 2nd category road racer.


He has played Rugby for Harlequins, English Universities, England Students U21, Oxford University and St Mary’s Hospital/Imperial Medicals. He is a double gold-medallist at the World Medical Games for Rugby sevens.


He was an accomplished track and field athlete, competing at the English Schools national championships, for Octathlon, Decathlon and Javelin over multiple years.
